From Benin to Trinidad to Colombia, Andy Williams gets deep into the rhythms of the African diaspora with selections by Sir Victor Uwaifo, Lizandro Meza, Andre Tanker, Blue Rhythm Combo and more. Hed Musick: DJ Lexis goes back to the moment when hip hop, jazz and psychotropic grooves mutated into Trip Hop with lots of hazy downtempo beats by Coldcut, DJ Smash, DJ Cam, Portishead, DJ Shadow and more. Bilal laments a life defined by "The Dollar" over a hypnotic Black Milk beat, and Montreal's Full Course drops their modern vintage cut "Reality Check". Respect the architect: Afrika Bambaataa breaks down the birth of hip hop and the Zulu Nation, the early days of record digging, and hip hop's power for positivity and progress. Lords of the Underground celebrate 20 years in the game with the imperious "Bumpin Loud", and M.anifest and Smif-N-Wessun take turns riding Osibisa's bass-heavy groove. Plus a classic Tribe x Gary Bartz sample moment, Zackey Force Funk's cosmic synth session "Press Play", Curtis and Stevie's delicious soul, and underground super-clique EMC's beastly "Charlie Murphie".
